Hey, just for the entire instance and the fediverse: Just as you don't have to suffer randos jumping into your replies to 'well, actually...' you here, I would recommend against subtooting. Instead, sharpen up your de-escalation techniques and backing away from the keyboard when you get heated.

There's no need for every disagreement over how to use the platform to be so emotionally wrought, or the backlash so disproportional as to result in an entire instance soft-calling someone out.

If you need to correct someone here on mastodon, remember the context. The atmosphere here is different, it's calmer, you don't have to deal with bad faith corporations and nazis everywhere. Be gentle, please.

Breathe. Relax. Trust each other and talk it out instead of escalating, breaking off and then grumbling and letting resentment build.

I'm writing all these words about this because I don't want the instance I feel so comfortable in, or the fediverse as a whole, to become swallowed up by the same anxious miasma that coats every other social media platform.

Things ARE different here, and they can BE different here, but that requires meeting each other halfway.

Obviously if someone starts being abusive or breaking the rules, you don't have to be nice to them.

But if someone's just a little heated and going in the wrong direction, I think the worst things you can do are: A) Go in on them and/or B) Subtoot about them.

I'm disappointed in how the argument that sparked all these words played out, but that's why I wrote this.

Please try harder, for all of our sake.

OK that's the end of this thread thank you for reading, you're extremely valid and wonderful even if you skipped it. πŸ’š

Boosting subtoots is number C of 'worst things you can do'.

@ThreddyTheTrex I hope it can do good, even though it came from a place of frustration!
