really like, now that it's been pointed out, the fact that there's Pretty Much Absolutely Zero trans man or transmasc rep in like... anything?
like i seriously don't know a lot of media things that aren't like, podcasts, but is there anything?
seriously someone mention something, skdjgsdhssjlhh
@heytanuki I mean, my headcanon wants to make Tsukasa from .hack//SIGN a trans man, but there's a nonzero amount of evidence pointing towards the contrary and it's like, just as harmful to try and force something where it's not, and that just makes me internally scream PRECISELY BECAUSE IT'S NOWHERE.
@OchotonidKnight also this got me thinking about aesthetic gender ambiguity in anime and like, even beyond that, there's the language barrier (as in corporate sanitation of blurry gender lines) that makes things like, having a nonbinary or transmasc character even more rare.
@heytanuki This, while true, pretty explicitly doesn't apply to .hack//SIGN even remotely. Because most of the show takes place within a fictional MMO and was produced in the 90s, everyone presents themselves to the world as either a male or female character explicitly (sorry). Tsukasa is interesting because IRL they are AFAB but they play a male Wavemaster in The World, and their IRL gender becomes relevant to the plot because, surprise, they're in a coma.
@OchotonidKnight that's NEAT and i wish that was explored more. lack of agency or real self-representation because of medical things. i'm sure it's not but, hhhhhh
and yeah aside, having to pick from binary gender in a game is more frustrating than not having a choice, tbh. Pokemon gives me fits. some games have enough customization that it's okay but, sjdhjshd
